Breaking Ground: A Newsletter from CIHA. Promoting Independence Through Housing.

Carol's Message

Dear Friends,

Preparation and planning are vital ingredients in the recipe for success. We strive to incorporate “readiness,” one of our core values, into every facet of our organization. The results are evident in the achievements of the programs, projects and people that Cook Inlet Housing Authority works with each and every day.

In addition to safe, affordable housing, we are committed to introducing our clients to the tools and skills essential in planning for a bright future. We offer clients a “hand-up”, rather than a “hand-out”. With our consumer education programs focused on money management, credit repair, home purchase planning and homebuyer responsibilities, we equip clients with a firm foundation for self-sufficiency and future success. We are in the business of building quality of life, not just quality of homes.

In keeping with this theme, Cook Inlet Housing Authority applies the same expectation for readiness internally among staff and management. We recognize that strategic planning and careful preparation for future endeavors is crucial to our ability to meet the evolving needs of the community we serve. From revenue-producing social enterprises to cooperative partnerships, being prepared today to meet the opportunities and challenges of tomorrow is essential to our ability to provide quality, affordable housing in an environment of rising construction costs and dwindling resources.

This past August, I had the opportunity to travel to Oregon with the CIHA executive management staff. Our agenda combined dedicated strategic planning with tours of innovative housing developments. Have no doubt, we are preparing for great things! This trip allowed us to regroup as a team, focus on goals and objectives for the remainder of the year and consider how best to poise ourselves for the prospects of 2008 and beyond. Exploring new ventures, refining existing ones and continually improving our organization’s efficiency are just a few of the ways we are steadfast in our obligation to prepare for the future.

As we continue to walk the “readiness” path alongside our clients, I am heartened by the evident strides of accomplishment that are reaped every day at Cook Inlet Housing Authority.

Homes may be our most visible product, but the people in them are our most valued investment.

Thanks to all of you for your ongoing support.
